Dining
Flik is the last name of the couple who began our company in 1971. Building their company through corporate dining services and private catering, Rudie and Julie Flik eventually expanded into the education market, focusing on private and independent schools. In 1995, our parent company, Compass Group, acquired FLIK. We now operate over 260 private independent day and boarding schools nationwide.
Who is FLIK Independent School Dining?
As a culinary driven organization, we believe fresh is best made. Our focus has always been cooking from whole, fresh ingredients while limiting the use of processed foods. We believe in using the highest standards for ingredients when cooking, including:
- fresh fruits and vegetables sourced locally whenever possible
- in-house roasted turkey and roast beef
- milk and yogurt sourced from cows that are certified rBGH/rBST-free
- foods prepared without the use of artificial colors and flavorings
What is FLIK's Food Philosopy?
The on-site chef creates menus with local/regional flavors and ingredients. They receive guidance, training, and suggestions for on-trend, innovative ideas from a central FLIK culinary, nutrition, and marketing team.
How are menus created?
We take seriously our role in safely serving students with special dietary needs. Managers receive support from registered dieticians regarding training, operation management, and communications to ensure safety. To best serve students with special dietary needs, anyone can simply schedule a meeting with their FLIK chef manager to discuss a plan.

Our classrooms are equipped with the latest technology, such as interactive boards, computers, and tablets. While teachers may use these tools to increase engagement during specific lessons, we are intentional when to use Technology by developing young students academically and socially, primarily through hands-on learning.
Our STEM Curriculum
Winters Park Academy is dedicated to providing exceptional education with a focus on stem education benefits. We adhere to the Texas Standards as a base to STEM curriculum using the approved Blue Bonnet math and language programs. Our programs integrate innovative STEM curriculum from PLTW and proprietary material across all grade levels and subjects, fostering curiosity, confidence and academic excellence. With innovative classrooms and a nurturing environment, students develop essential skills for personal and academic success. The stem education benefits offered here prepare young minds for future success, ensuring a brighter tomorrow. Hands-on learning significantly enhances STEM skills in young children by promoting active engagement, deeper understanding, and skill development, as supported by multiple educational sources.
Building for Learning
Winters Park Academy features plenty of outdoor space to play and thrive, library, STEM technology/robotics center, music &Art room, gymnasium, health clinic, and catering kitchen. Multipurpose auditorium for additional learning opportunities.
Expansive Classrooms
Our 12 classrooms fit in a building almost 13K sq ft, which gives us plenty of space for students. Our preschool classrooms are spacious and inviting, with spaces designed for independent and collaborative learning, as well as two restrooms within each classroom. Our elementary grades enjoy STEAM hands on tools and lots of opportunities to build, problem solve, and create.
Outdoor Learning & Play
Our two-acre campus features extensive, secured playgrounds w/ plenty of room to run, playsets to climb and an auditorium to use during inclement weather. Plus, a separate 500+ sq ft gym gives ample sports time space.
Optimal Class Sizes
Winters Park Academy ensures small groups and optimal student-to-teacher ratios for personalized instruction. Class sizes of 18 or fewer (depending on grade), led by licensed and nurturing teachers with extra student one-one with experienced teachers’ aides.
Student Wellbeing
Winters Park Academy employs a full-time dedicated RN Nurse Clinic for students who oversees student health and provides compassionate care. They also handle student care, medications, consent forms, and physician care plans to our learners.
Surveillance technology, trained staff, locked classroom doors, and badged access to a single school entry point through two sets of doors provides parents peace of mind.
