Position Overview


A Lower School STEM Teacher plays a crucial role in educating students according to Texas State standards. This position emphasizes the subjects of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM).


We seek a dynamic and innovative individual who is passionate about fostering curiosity and enthusiasm for STEM disciplines among children. The teacher will create engaging lesson plans that integrate scientific principles, technological concepts, engineering practices, and mathematical reasoning. The goal is to develop a solid foundation for future academic success and career opportunities in STEM fields.


Key Responsibilities


Curriculum Development: Design and implement a comprehensive and interdisciplinary STEM curriculum that aligns with state and national standards.


Lesson Planning: Create detailed lesson plans that incorporate hands-on activities, experiments, and interactive projects. This approach makes learning enjoyable and effective.


Instruction: Deliver lessons using various instructional techniques to aid understanding and retention of STEM concepts.


Assessment: Develop and administer assessments to evaluate students' progress and understanding of the material.


Classroom Management: Maintain an organized and conducive learning environment. Employ strategies to manage student behavior and promote positive interactions.


Professional Development: Engage in ongoing professional development to stay abreast of new teaching methods, technologies, and advancements in STEM education.


Parent Involvement: Communicate regularly with parents and guardians about their child's progress. Work with staff and school administrators to create a successful learning environment for all students.


Community Involvement: Involve the community and school partners in STEM-related activities and events. This enhances classroom learning experiences.


Collaboration: Work collaboratively with other teachers, staff, and administrators to integrate STEM across the curriculum and participate in school-wide initiatives.


Qualifications


Education: A Bachelor’s degree in Education, Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related field is required. A teaching credential or certification in elementary education is essential.


Experience: Candidates with a minimum of 5+ years of experience teaching at the elementary level or working in the STEM industry are preferred.

  • Strong knowledge of STEM subjects and the ability to convey complex concepts in an accessible manner.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to interact effectively with students, parents, and colleagues.

  • Creativity in lesson planning with the ability to incorporate innovative teaching methods.

  • Proficiency in using educational technology and digital tools to enhance learning.

  • Strong organizational skills to manage a classroom and prepare instructional materials.

Job Environment


The Elementary School STEM Teacher typically works in a well-equipped classroom environment conducive to learning. The future state of the role may involve occasional field trips, science fairs, and STEM-related extracurricular activities. This may require some travel and additional hours beyond the standard school day.


Performing necessary duties includes but is not limited to carpool, lunch and recess supervision, event set-up, tear-down, and attendance; training and staff meetings; student assessments, documentation, communication, and any other campus needs. Collaboration with fellow teachers and participation in professional development workshops are integral parts of the job.


Salary and Benefits

Application Process


Interested candidates should submit a resume and three professional references. The selection process will involve evaluating the candidate's suitability for the role through the submission of a lesson plan and video, along with an interview.


Video Submission


Candidates must film a video based on the submitted lesson plan. This video should demonstrate the candidate's ability to communicate effectively and present materials thoughtfully. Include a hands-on opportunity for students to apply learned material to a real-world example. The video should be about 2-3 minutes in length, not including any children, and may be conducted outside of a classroom.


Candidates must be authorized to work in the US and pass a drug and background check.
